We all know that when you have kids, taking time to take care of yourself as a mama isn't always a major priority. That's why we've decided to create the 5 Minutes for Mama series. Each week we'll give you five tips that will take less than 5 minutes to do on how you can look after yourself as a mother so that you can be your best self for your family. There will be a different theme for each week. This week we're looking at hair care and simple styling that is quick and easy because we know time is scarce as a mama.
1. Simple Coconut Hair Mask
Use a natural coconut oil. Spread it all over your hair. Make sure it is completely coated. Pull it back in a slick bun and either leave it on overnight or do it in the morning and go about your day. Wash it out thoroughly. We suggest rinsing at least twice or 3 times. It nourishes your hair, soothes your scalp and can promote hair growth.
2. Dry Shampoo
Some days washing your hair just isn't an option when you're an on-the-go mama. That's why dry shampoo is such a miracle. When using it be sure to hold the can at arm's length from your head. Make sure you wait for it to absorb and then brush it through your hair. Don't use it for more than 3 days at a time or it will become ineffective. Dry shampoo is also a great volumiser so you can also use it when your hair is clean but feeling limp and lifeless.
3. Split End Mask
We all get those pesky split ends but sometimes there is just no time to head into the hair salon for a trim. That's where this magical mask comes in. Mix an egg yolk, 3 tablespoons of olive oil and a tablespoon of honey together. Apply it to your hair every two weeks for an hour before you wash it out. It will keep your hair looking sleek, smooth, and best of all, split end free!
4. Milk Maid Braid
In the rush of making breakfast, packing lunches and doing the school run, there is little time to set aside for doing a pretty hairstyle. That's why we suggest you try an easy milk maid braid. Simply divide your hair equally on both sides. Braid each side. Then take the left braid and cross it over the front of your head. Pin it there with a bobby pin or two. Then cross the right braid over it and secure it with bobby pins. Voila, you have a simple, pretty hairstyle that takes under 5 minutes to do. Try this visual tutorial for more help.
5. Cut Your Own Fringe
Do you have a fringe that constantly needs trimming? Instead of forking out your time and money to go to the hair salon every 6 weeks, try this simple DIY fringe trimming guide. One tip we'd give you is to buy a pair of hair scissors before you start.
Have a good hair day!
